crafty DIY

This was inspired by pinhole’s magnets. I thought it was super cute and wanted to order some as a gift for Mother’s day. The magnets cost and shipping fee is outrages, sadly.

So I decided to see how cheap it would be to make them myself. At the end it only cost about 0.70 cents per magnet. Not to bad!

     Materials:

  1. Package of Avery magnet sheets
  2. Photos
  3. Double sided tape (or non-acid glue)
  4. Ruler
  5. X-acto knife or scissors

Scroll down for the steps for this DIY.

Steps:

1. First select photos you want to use. You can scan them or took photos of photos if you don’t have a scanner. If you already have them on hand skip step 3.

_

2. Choose a size for your magnets. My was 3.5in x 4.5in, that way it would fit on 4in x 6in (cheapest print size to print and my images were a little rough so smaller was better for me). Try making tiny magnets using wallet size pictures.

I imported photos into photoshop to create 1/4 in white border. If you don’t photoshop just pick the border option at the photo printing store.

_

3. Go get photos printed (I went to Shopper Drug Mart). I liked the matte finish photo paper. But glossy is good too (Glossy is thinner paper which means magnets will stick a little better on the fridge).

_

4. Cut out the picture (if you picked a special size). Warning: Be super careful when using an x-acto knife, blades are sharp. I’ve had a handful of x-acto knife accidents and they are not pretty.

_

5. Place double sided tape or glue on the back of photo. I put double sided tape on edges and glue in the middle. Pretty much cover the entire back with glue or tape (just to be safe).

_

6. Place photo, adhesive side down, on magnet paper. Make sure it’s on there good. Work with one photo at a time.

_

7. Cut out magnet.

_

8. Place on fridge or send them to someone special.

Tip: If you get glue on the good side of the photo, don’t worry. Just get a semi damp cloth and gently wipe it off.

wedding days

My parents 32nd wedding anniversary is days away. Jason and I were older than my parents when we got married. Look how long my mom’s veil was.

Jason makes all the meals during the weekdays and weekends. Tonight I shall cook for him. Hoping he’ll like trout with couscous and fennel salad.

bye pumpkin

This is what a week can do to a pumpkin living outside. Let’s remember when it was fresh.

Look what I discovered in the bedroom while putting on my socks.

Light is so magical.

friday style

Friday night with homemade maple popcorn (I like to turn healthy popcorn into not so healthy popcorn i.e butter and maple syrup). Wish I saved some for the movie (Notting Hill)
